Non-invasive spinal cord stimulation paired with intensive, activity-based therapy, offered with three stimulation systems and backed by our active clinical research.
Transcutaneous spinal cord stimulation (TSCS) delivers gentle, targeted electrical stimulation to the spinal cord through electrodes placed on the skin over the spine, usually at the neck, mid-back or lower back. No surgery or implant is involved.
After a spinal cord injury, some nerve pathways between the brain and body often remain intact but too weak to produce strong movement. TSCS raises the excitability of the spinal circuits below the injury, so the signals that still get through have a better chance of producing movement and sensation.
Stimulation alone is not the therapy. Its benefit comes from pairing it with intensive, task-specific practice, such as grasping, reaching, standing and walking, which is exactly the activity-based approach TRYAbility is built on.
Electrodes on the skin, no surgery or implanted hardware.
Every session combines stimulation with one-on-one, task-specific training from our neuro specialists.
TRYAbility participates in national TSCS studies and runs its own clinical trial.
TRYAbility offers three transcutaneous stimulation systems under one roof, so your therapy team can match the technology to your injury and goals.
TRYAbility is an active research site for transcutaneous spinal cord stimulation. Our participation helps shape how these therapies are delivered, and it means our patients are treated by clinicians working at the front edge of the field.
TRYAbility served as a study site evaluating the safety and effectiveness of ExaStim combined with physical and occupational therapy for people with spinal cord injury.
We helped evaluate ExaStim use at home, with participants training with stimulation in their daily routines and checking in with our clinicians remotely.
TRYAbility is currently conducting a clinical trial on upper and lower extremity outcomes in people with cervical spinal cord injury who can walk. The study examines whether combining ExaStim-powered TSCS therapy with 4-aminopyridine (4-AP, also called dalfampridine), an oral medication that can improve nerve signal conduction, leads to greater gains than stimulation and therapy alone.
4-AP is FDA-approved to improve walking in multiple sclerosis; its use in spinal cord injury is investigational.
