What are the benefits?
What is my responsibility as an OT patient?
As a patient it is your responsibility to be an advocate for yourself and your functional goals. It is pivotal that you establish an open and honest relationship with your occupational therapist from the very beginning, so he or she can help maximize your ability to reach the goals that you both mutually agree on. As a patient, it is very important that you diligently follow your home exercise program and make activity a part of your daily life.
Research heavily supports multiple repetitions of task specific activities for recovery. Educating yourself on your diagnosis and how it affects your body will be an important key to success. Your occupational therapist will be there to facilitate and guide you towards your goals, and be a strong advocate for you throughout the entire process.
Our Occupational Therapists enjoy educating our patients about their injury or disease process, on the effects and benefits of occupational therapy for their specific diagnosis, and about the latest research that backs their interventions and promotes recovery. We take pride in being our patients’ strongest advocates and supporters throughout their journey towards independence.
